The Women’s Health hormone test measures a variety of important hormones that influence reproductive health, metabolism, and overall well-being.
🧪 Estradiol
Estradiol is the most important form of the female sex hormones (oestrogens). It is produced by the ovaries and is centrally involved in ovulation and other functions. It is important for bone and vascular health. Estradiol levels fall considerably during the menopause.
🧪 Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): this control hormone produced by the pituitary gland regulates the maturation of ovarian follicles and the cyclisation of sex hormones.
🧪 Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
The second control hormone of the pituitary gland. It leads to the maturation and stimulation of the follicle. In the ovulation phase, a surge of LH causes the release of a mature egg cell for fertilisation.
🧪 Prolactin
A hormone produced by the pituitary gland that is responsible for breast growth and milk production during and after pregnancy. It is used in diagnostics if there is a deficiency in the hormones measured in the test.
🧪 DHEA-S
An androgen hormone or typically male sex hormone produced by the adrenal glands. In women, a small percentage of DHEAS is produced by the ovaries. DHEAS is a precursor to other sex hormones, including oestrogen and testosterone, and also aids in diagnosis.
🧪 Total Testosterone
Testosterone also plays an important role in promoting overall health, energy levels and athletic performance in women.
🧪 Free Testosterone
Free testosterone is measured in addition to total testosterone to determine a testosterone deficiency or excess.
🧪 Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG)
A protein that binds primarily to male sex hormones and regulates their bioavailability in the bloodstream. SHBG levels can significantly influence the amount of active hormones in the blood.
🧪 Albumin
A transport protein that carries hormones, vitamins, fatty acids, and amino acids, helping regulate hormone levels.
